Through offering our support, we enable our people and our communities to grow, to become missionary and to thrive. We are working towards all of our churches becoming outward-looking churches.
Receiving your First Holy Communion is a significant and joyous milestone in the life of a Catholic. It is the first time you partake in the Eucharist, where you receive the Body and Blood of Christ, drawing you closer to Him and deepening your connection to the Church. This sacred event typically follows a period of preparation and learning, helping you understand the profound meaning of this sacrament.
For children, First Holy Communion usually takes place around the age of seven or eight, after they have been baptised and received basic instruction in the faith. However, adults preparing to join the Church may also receive their First Communion as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Regardless of age, this sacrament represents a new stage in your spiritual journey.
Preparation involves learning about the Eucharist, the Mass, and how the bread and wine become the real presence of Jesus Christ. You will also be encouraged to attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation beforehand, ensuring that you receive Holy Communion in a state of grace.
On the day of your First Holy Communion, you will join the congregation during Mass, approaching the altar to receive the consecrated host. This moment symbolises not only your unity with Christ but also with the entire Catholic community. It is an experience of great joy and a reminder of Christ’s love and sacrifice for us.
After your First Communion, you are invited to continue receiving the Eucharist regularly, nurturing your spiritual growth and living out your faith in everyday life.
